The Hester family of Manteo has established an endowment fund with the Outer Banks Community Foundation to honor Naomi Collins Hester, who will celebrate her 70th birthday on July 28. The Hester Family Legacy Fund will honor Hester’s lifelong service to Dare County and her volunteer activities that helped those in need in the community for many years.

A volunteer who was preparing to grill food for the concessions stand at a baseball game was burned after built up gas exploded in his face in Kill Devil Hills Monday night.

On July 4 at about 10:41 p.m., the Kitty Hawk Fire and Police Departments responded to a 911 call at 301 Beech Drive in reference to a residential fire.
